Curling Canada has announced an unprecedented March-Madness-style elimination event in September with a total purse in excess of $350,000. Talk about sweeps-takes.

    1. Actually, the winning team prize money is higher than most, but less than some others. The difference is all the teams will get paid travel money, which is new. And the format is knockout rather than round-robin. So teams get paid more and more for each win, thus money is more evenly distributed throughout, meaning all the teams may make a slight profit, depending on their travel costs. ... But curlers don't make money - except the consistent winning teams, or teams with a lot of sponsors.

    2. Short answer: smaller winning purse, but the largest overall purse. I rewrote the joke to reflect that. Good question, Gary.
