Happy Victoria Day weekend to all my Canadian friends!

  1. One of the many perks of growing up in Washington state was our high school band's annual trip north to march in the Victoria Day parade. It was a 2 or 3 day trek in which we played concerts at several senior citizens' homes and explored various locales of the city. Although it's been hundreds of years, my memories are enhanced by time. I imagine the celebrations are numerous and likely, better. Happy Victoria Day to you, too!

  2. Hi Gary: Thanks for the anecdote. Interesting. Sounds like a terrific trip for young musicians to take. Were you marching in Vancouver or Victoria? I think there is a ferry that goes direct from Washington (Port Angeles?) to Victoria. Maybe you took that?

    1. Victoria. We took the WA state ferry, Anacortes to Sydney, a little over 2 hours through the San Juan Islands. I believe the Black Ball (a private ferry) and BC Ferries serve the PA-Victoria run.

  3. Ah. The Sydney ferry. I think you are right about Black Ball. My wife's paternal grandparents retired to Sydney. Not that far outside of Victoria.
