UTC (Tennessee-Chattanooga) used a water moccasin as a mascot long ago. At some point, they turned the moc into an Indian reference. When they realized that was not politically correct, they went to the mockingbird (state bird). So they've somehow managed to hold onto the moc reference regardless of its affiliation.
Anyone think they can guess this NCAA bird-related team?
ReplyDeleteHint: their name is short for a certain bird.
ReplyDeleteUTC ... Tennessee Chattanooga. I think they are the Mocs. For some reason I thought Moccasins was short for the snake.
ReplyDeleteMockingbirds. ... Mocs.

DeleteGive that man a prize! Mockingbirds it is.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the explanation, Gary. So you weren't totally wrong, Kelly: they used to be named after the snake.
