I just learned there's actually a steamed British pudding called Spotted Dick. It is not to be confused with recent online photos of the Cowboys' Martellus Bennett.
OMG, this joke made me get coffee up my nose. I have had Spotted Dick pudding. As you say, it is steamed and usually has fruit in it. If you get a chance to try some, it is yummy.
