Amen. My thanks to all veterans who took the oath to defend freedom for all of us. 22 vets take their own lives every day in the US. Mix a pandemic with PTSD and I doubt that average will decline, soon. While our VA has some fine mental health programs, it's just not possible to get all those in need to participate. Our fathers comprised the Greatest Generation, and they take all of their wounds to their graves.
War destroys lives, and not just those killed in action. Many of those who survive return home damaged. The echos of their wars can last decades.

ReplyDeleteWell said, Gary. 22 lives every day — speaks volumes about the deep-seated trauma so many vets bring home.
DeleteA very sad thing. War kills in so many ways. You are spot on, both of you.
