SPORTS DEKE NOTE: A special thanks to Cam Hutchinson, editor of the Saskatoon Express, for reprinting Christmas Snapshot, a short story I wrote on the 40th anniversary of what happened to my mother and our family on Christmas Eve in 1959.
As for Readers Digest, good memory. About half of it ran there — they took out almost 1000 words of a 2000-word story. LOL. So I don't recommend that version.
Nice story, enjoyed it very much. I'd forgotten a lot of it so it was good to read it again. Don't suppose you're still in touch with any of the old neighbors?
No. But when the story first ran in print I got a letter from my mom's cousin, whom she played with as kid. They reconnected for the first time in 65 years. So that was cool. My mother passed away in 2006.
I just read it again. It's wonderful. It brings a tear to eye. It once graced the pages of Readers Digest, didn't it?
ReplyDeleteThanks Charles T. Kind of you to say so.
