Prior to UMBC becoming The Tournament’s first No. 16 seed ever to knock off a No. 1 seed, the Retreivers were best known for a streak of 16 straight Final Four appearances –– in chess! Turns out they weren’t just pawns.

    It took me a while to find out what UMBC stood for –– University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Like many people, I had never heard of it. And my auto-correct kept changing it to MSNBC. :)

    I don't have auto-correct, I just have Annie...and she never heard of UMBC or MSNBC.

      MSNBC (Microsoft News Broadcasting Company) is an American news cable and satellite television network that provides news coverage and political commentary from NBC News on current events.

      UMBC's campus store sold the same amount of merchandise the day after their big win as they sold in the entire year before that.
