Triple Crown winner Justify isn't likely to visit the White House. The reason he ran so hard in the first place was to avoid seeing another horse’s ass.

  1. One of the risks of spacing out one's posts: someone may beat you to it.

I wrote this horse's ass idea prior to the race at Belmont, with winning or losing versions. I understand that there are other "horse's ass" jokes about Justify and the White House out there. That's the humour biz for you - and especially true with puns.

    1. It's one of the reasons I don't read other humour collections before writing (and sending) my batch on Fridays. I want to get my ideas down before I see what other have done.

  2. I've seen this following exact same punchline in several places, and none of them giving credit to the person who wrote it:

"Justify won the Belmont Stakes, becoming the 13th triple Crown winner, and turned down an invitation to the White House. Asked why, the winner neighed, “'If I wanted to see a horse’s ass, I would’ve finished second.'" (Daily KOS)

Breaking News: Justify turns down invitation to White House. Asked why, the Triple Crown winner said “If I wanted to see a horse’s ass, I would have finished second.” (Harvey Kaye on Twitter)

Word for word, same punchline. I think it was on a talk show first?

  3. Friend of mine (professional comedy writer) told me not to worry about situations like. If you think your line is better, go with it. You're fine and so is you punch line.

    1. Stan Kegel told me something similar about puns: that someone somewhere has probably done it at some time.
